TownHall.com: Conservative Columnists: David Horowitz

I blogged this one because it is all one paragraph.

Some of you get the joke; if you don't, don't worry about it.

They Choke on Coke, but Savor Mecca-Cola

Let me get this straight -- American, Western things are bad, but Arab things that are crude knock-offs of Western things are great?

This is the funniest thing since Elvis.

ArabNews: When silence is not golden

We got a bumper crop today! Let's dissect this little gem.
There is no longer any serious doubt anywhere that the events of Sept. 11 created a new world order. And in that new order there is no doubt at all that there is now only one superpower: The United States. At present the superpower is behaving like the proverbial bull in a china shop. It is not yet breaking but it is certainly threatening, accusing and blackmailing. It is committing acts that would cause America’s legendary Founding Fathers to turn in their graves if they knew.
Jefferson and Adams and Smith spinning! I bet this next part is about the Ministry of Homeland Security and inane airport security and domestic spying, I betcha!
Far too much American anger, wrath and simple belligerence has been directed against the Muslim world. America, it seems, has to have an enemy and in the absence of “godless communism,” their war on terror is viewed by many as a “war on Islam.” The evil done by a few Muslims has been expanded in the American media to include all Muslims. Nobody denies that America — or any other country — has the right to defend itself against terror. Nobody denies that America — or any other country — has the right and the obligation to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens. At the same time, America — and every other country — should realize that we Muslims too oppose terror. We too have suffered because of terror. America is not the exclusive victim of terror though it likes to think it is and to use that to justify many of its actions. The demonization of Muslims and the deliberate attacks on Islam by no less a person than US Attorney General John Ashcroft leave us sadly shocked and disappointed.
Yeah, that Ashcroft is... erugh? Islam has given the world 40 years of terrorism, and now we are bad for wanting Islam to clean up its own problems? You don't hear about Hindu terrorists. There aren't any Buhddist terrorists. You got a few hundred Catholic terrorists in Ireland. You got a few dozen Christian terrorists hanging out around abortion clinics. And you have tens of thousands (if you don't get into the millions in the African Civil wars) of Muslim terrorists, centered in nearly every Muslim country. It's a little disproportionate there.
The cartoons ridiculing our Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, are justified by officials and the media who say — predictably — the press is free. Well, the press should be free but if it is, where are the cartoons, articles and TV shows presenting Arab or Palestinian opinions and views?
See below. MEMRI cataloged a whole bunch of them.
As we look back at the year, we see that the attacks upon us have taken on a new and sinister dimension. Libelous and poisonous, the attacks have been both created and circulated by a powerful Zionist-backed lobby and its close allies. Against the background of sustained malicious attacks and allegations that distort, deal in half-truths, play to prejudices and simply lie, what can we do? What should we do? That may be a matter of debate but one thing is sure: We cannot, indeed we must not remain idle.
You know, the old Arab line of blaming everything on the Zionists is the same as the old cracker blaming all the world's problems on the Niggers. They are both mythical creatures. Like Chris Rock said, "Space shuttle blew up? It's those damned niggers!"

It's kinda funny to hear complaints about "zionist half-truths" when you have major Muslim countries broadcasting 30 hour miniserieses on complete lies like "The Protocals of the Elders of Zion."

The time has come for us to look more closely at ourselves, to look honestly and analytically and to admit whatever we see — which will in many cases be painful to us. Once we have seen and admitted what is wrong, then comes the time for action. No self-indulgent pity, no claims that we are misunderstood and victimized, no turning away from the truth. A vital part of the success of this process depends upon our boldness in speaking out and challenging those who present and advocate ideas dressed in traditional language but which in fact too often run contrary to the best Islamic ideals of justice, fair play and tolerance. And a part of this tolerance will have to be — in the 21st century where we find ourselves — global cooperation. We are not an island, marooned and isolated; we are a part of the world and we must play our part in it. In order to do so, our children must be given a world-class education designed to produce caring, responsible and mature citizens, capable of making judgments, expressing logical opinions and demanding good governance.
Hey, guys, here's the main problem that Islam has. Your image has been highjacked by guys who fly planes into buildings. I don't think education is the answer, since education in Arabia seems to lead people to fly planes into buildings.

This is the big lie about terrorism. It isn't the poor and dejected that are carrying out the terrorism. It is the educated children of wealth who are committing these acts. Poor people are too hungry to travel halfway around the world to kill people.

ArabNews: Editorial: Scarred psyche

Everyone's Favorite Hypocrites

Peep dis:

How will it seem now that Israel’s Election Commission has seen it fit to ban two Arab deputies from standing for re-election, because it does not agree with their political views on the plight of their fellow Palestinians? The decision to bar Azmi Bishara and his Balad party from contesting his seat in the Jan. 28 elections comes a day after it disqualified another Israel Arab MP, Ahmad Tibi. The charge against them is the catch-all "seeking the destruction" of the Jewish state. It is an accusation that doesn’t need to be proved in Sharon’s Israel. If it is an Arab, accusation is proof.
It could be worse, you know. They could claim that you have to belong to a certain religion to even vote, much less hold office. Israel says that to be a politician you can't be a traitor. (Look the work up if it confuses you.) Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, requires you to be a Muslim.

Just in case you were wondering, it wasn't the "Jewish State" part that got them disqualified. It was the "armed revolt" part. You know, treason.

If you strike at a king, make certain that you kill him.

Poll: Americans Wary of Tax Cuts, War

Nearly two-thirds of respondents in an Associated Press poll said they believe it's prudent to hold off on more tax cuts.
So? About 35% of the US population doesn't pay ANY federal income tax. How much of this 2/3 is that 35%? (Hint: I bet it is real close to 50%.) It gets better; this is the first person quoted:
Those anxieties were voiced by Joanne Arriola, a 62-year-old retiree from a utility company in Butte, Mont. She's seen her retirement fund reduced sharply by the troubled economy and worries about the effects of a war in Iraq, and is convinced that war will return to America.
Do you see the good part? 62 year old retiree? Her days of paying income taxes are over. "Well, Phelps, I see that your income tax rate has now been pegged at 0% for the rest of your life. What rate do you think everyone else should pay?" "I think they should pay until they bleed from the eyes, Chuck. And don't touch my Social Security."

It is real simple. Take everyone that doesn't pay any net income taxes, and revoke thier franchise. You want your EIC and welfare? Take it, and hand over your vote.

MEMRI: Cartoons

This is something that everyone needs to take a look at. If you need a little perspective, compare them to these Nazi cartoons. Of course, you might want to keep a little history of Arabs and Nazism in mind.

HoustonChronicle.com - Increased suicides worry Marines

Warning! Cognative dissonance! Take a look at these two paragraphs:
The Christmas and New Year's period and the weeks following can be fraught with isolation and emotional distress for both civilians and service personnel alike. In an advisory sent to Marine commanders last year, service mental health officials warned that the post-holiday period especially can be most "tumultuous" for people contemplating suicide. "January can bring serious financial burden and feelings of isolation and therefore requires our closest attention," the memo warned.
People kill themselves because they are isolated from those they care about and because they can't get the things they want to do done. Gotcha.
Gaskin said there was no special cause for the recent increase in suicides and that the additional deployments and transfers linked to increased anti-terrorist operations weren't a factor. Instead, he said, the causes are "the same old stuff everybody else faces," including relationship problems, legal problems, financial problems, alcohol and drug abuse.
Okay, so... erugh? Increased deployments have nothing to do with it? Stupid! You so stupid! People have relationship problems because long distance doesn't work, and Afghanistan and Turkey is sure as hell long distance. Legal problems acrue because you aren't at home to handle them, and rest assured, the majority of these legal problems are divorces. The average person is only involved in two kinds of legal problems -- divorces and traffic accidents. Financial problems? Try keeping up with your bills from 5000 miles away. Alcohol and drug abuse? Extended deployment. Nothing to do, no one that you care for around, nothing to spend your money on, nothing to do but try to escape the only way you can -- in your own head.

We are deploying our fighting men and women too much, for too little. Clinton started it, with his policy of using the Armed Services as political distractions and brushfire firemen, and Bush has continued this by refusing to stop these little stopgap measures, and instead instituting the War on Freedom -- I mean, War on Terrorism.

CNN.com - Rangel calls for mandatory military service - Dec. 30, 2002

This is the stupidest idea since "Rock Against Drugs". Someone needs to get a stick, and hit him and say "Noooooo." Then they need to rub his face in the carpet of the House Chamber, like rubbing a dog's nose in shit. "No NO no no NOOOO NO!" How many different ways do you have to say "Slavery is wrong, m'kay?"

ArabNews: Sharon gives army free hand to kill

I don't mind eating crow as long as it is prepared well. This time, Arab News actually has better coverage of the fighting than Haaretz. The Haaretz account gives a matter of fact view of the killings, (which, to be fair, is in line with thier matter of fact reporting of Palestinian killings of Israelis, both Hebrew and Arab) while Arab News gives a good account of the killings by both sides (the eating crow part, since they usually white-wash or completely ignore the Arab killings.)

The only issue that I have with the Arab News account is that it misleadingly juxtaposes an alleged plan to increase the pace of assasinations of terrorists to the accidental killings of the children in Israel over the last few days. I wasn't able to discern from either account the disposition of the protesters. Being an American, I tend to think of a protest as something involving picket signs and a coffee station set up on the side. My intellect has to remind me when I read "protest" in this context, it usually involves mobs, weapons, stone throwing and lynchings. (Before you read stone-throwing the wrong way, remember that this is how David slew Goliath and Cain slew Abel.)

The Haaretz account says that there was stone throwing involved in the protest, but that is as far as it goes.

I was surprised to see a much more in depth account of the actions of the Arab terrorists in Israel in the Arab News account. I was surpised that the story of the RPG attack wasn't covered more in the Israeli press that I see, but I'm not shocked, given the American policy of covering up terrorist attacks if at all possible. Perhaps the Israelis are taking a page from our playbook.
